Tropheus sp. "Bemba Flame"
Sm- med 2.5-3.5"
The Tropheus Bemba Flame, native to the shallow, rocky areas of Lake Tanganyika in Africa, is a well-known and popular species of Tropheus in the hobby. This fish, like others in the Tropheus family, boasts some of the most vibrant colors found in the African rift lakes. Its dark, almost black body is highlighted with a bright orange, flame-like vertical bar near the anal fin, which gives the species its common name, Bemba Flame.
These fish are communal, usually requiring them to be kept in groups of 5 or more, so they are best suited for larger tanks of around 80-100 gallons They require minimal tank decoration such as fine sand and a few rocks. To replicate their natural habitat in Lake Tanganyika, the water conditions should also be similar. As herbivores, they should be primarily fed a diet of vegetable matter, including algae wafers, spirulina-based flakes, and pellets. In their natural environment, these fish mainly feed on algae.
