The Long Fin Alestes tetra is commonly found throughout Africa, ranging from Gambia to the Congo. It inhabits both the upper and lower sections of large rivers, as well as estuaries with mixed waters. Due to their active nature and large size, this species requires a spacious aquarium. When kept in groups of 8 or more, the Long Fin Alestes tetra displays a naturally friendly demeanor. To promote their well-being, it is recommended to provide a dark substrate, along with dense planting areas (including floating plants for diffused lighting). In addition, the aquarium should be well-filtered with a high oxygen content, ideally through external filtration. Regular partial water changes are also necessary due to the species intolerance for dirty water.
